LAWSON, Maria Anna Lydia (nee Wagner)
September 9, 1955 – Mankota, Saskatchewan
March 31, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Maria Lawson, beloved wife of Doug Lawson, of Calgary, AB passed away at home on March 31, 2023 at the age of 67 years.
Maria was born in Mankota, SK and lived in Mankota, Swift Current, Calgary and Burnaby before returning to Calgary in the late 70s. For most of her career, Maria worked in a series of leadership positions at the Royal Bank of Canada. Maria married Doug in 1996, and they enjoyed their life together through many adventures – dancing, skydiving, balloon rides, many kilometers of hiking, spending time with their family, and travelling throughout Canada, the US and Germany. Maria and Doug always found a reason to smile and to see the joy of life. Maria was particularly proud of her step children as they grew into fine young adults and found their own careers.
Besides her loving husband, Maria is survived by her step children and their spouses; Tyler (Kristin) and Holly Kennedy (Graham) and grandchildren Johanna, Alfred, Emmett and Rylan. Maria is also survived by her sister, brother and in-laws: Terri Murray (Steve) and Al Wagner (Jan); as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Pius and Elizabeth Wagner.
Special thanks to Maria’s health care team: Drs Chrisohou, Mohamed, Chen and Stajkovic, and the Interventional Radiology team at the Peter Lougheed Centre.
A celebration of Maria’s life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Maria requests that everyone pay it forward: hug someone who needs it, hold someone’s hand for support, tell the people you love that you love them – before it’s too late, and live life to the fullest!

Dear Doug and family, We want to tell you how very sorry we are with Maria’s passing. Your loss is felt by all of us who were lucky enough to have known her. I have often thought of you and Maria since we moved to BC and am lucky enough to have many pictures with you two in them that always bring a smile to my face.
As inspiration in her optimism, perseverance and kindness. Despite the challenges in front of her, she would constantly ask about the well being of others.
Maria was someone that has deeply impacted me personally and professionally.
My sincerest condolences Doug and family
