KRELL, Lulu Grace
November 21, 1916 – February 13, 2017
Lulu Grace Krell of Cochrane, AB passed away peacefully February 13, 2017 at the age of 100. She was born in Northgate, SK on November 21, 1916 to John and Katherina Patten. She grew up on the farm with her three siblings. Lulu lived on the farm until she married Peter Krell on July 2, 1941. They moved to Stoughton, Sask where she and Peter raised their three daughters (Eileen, Shirley, & Dianne). Lulu lived on the farm until Peter’s death in 1975. She then moved into town where she was a very active volunteer with the senior drop in center, the Lutheran church and the seniors lodge.
Lulu could always be found helping others in town until she moved to The Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane, AB in 2005. She was a truly remarkable woman, who lived a lifetime and touched so many lives. She was the matriarch of our family and an inspiration and her presence will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three daughters, Eileen (Eric) Schmidt of Coaldale, AB; Shirley (Pete) Christiansen of Cochrane, AB, and Dianne Westcott of Regina, SK; 9 grandchildren Pamela Materi, Rob (Angel) Materi, Alvin (Cathy) Materi, Lori Deeton, Patti (Brian) Parton, Peter (Kari) Christiansen, Nicole (Neil) Robins, Tyler (Catherine) Westcott, Erin (Dwayne) Schwalm; 18 Great Grandchildren ; 7 great great grandchildren and her brother-in-law Gordon Pickering of 100 Mile House, BC. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Peter Krell, brothers Henry and Harold Patten and sister Leona Pickering.
We would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to all the staff and residents of the Big Hill Lodge for making Lulu a part of the Big Hill family. You loved her, took care of her and we are sincerely grateful to you all. Memorial service to be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:30 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church (43015 George Fox Trail, Cochrane, AB).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Big Hill Lodge, 98 Carolina Drive, Cochrane, AB T4C 1X5.
