IVERSON, Frederick Donald
June 27, 1930- April 19, 2023
A life well lived has come to an end as a gentle spirit left this earth. Frederick Donald Iverson passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2023, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Fred was born on June 27, 1930, on a homestead near Preeceville, Saskatchewan. His family is deeply saddened by his death and will miss him greatly.
He married the love of his life Margaret Anne Meyers on October 7, 1955 – a love match of 67 years!! Fred and Margaret resided in Calgary, and went on to have 4 children – Barbara, Brenda, Bob and Bernice (the 4 Bs), & all shared a cat named Bimbo. In 1965, Fred started a successful business – Iverson Heating and Air Conditioning – several of his staff are still close friends today. Fred and Margaret moved to Cochrane in later years and enjoyed the hometown feel, coffee groups and the most spectacular views of the foothills and Rocky Mountains. They also acquired a parcel of land in Mountain View County off the Little Red Deer river which they affectionally named, Tally-Ho. He loved this getaway, that became a sanctuary for all his family and friends to enjoy.
Fred loved the outdoors!! He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, hiking, tennis, wilderness canoeing and camping. Fred and Margaret played a round of golf everywhere they visited, from Hawaii to Arizona to Palm Springs to Sundre country and were regulars at Silver Springs course in Calgary. Fred went hunting annually at the hunting camp in Saskatchewan and enjoyed his time with the guys. The family took many fishing trips throughout Saskatchewan, especially to Waskesiu Lake, and enjoyed many an evening of delicious walleye dinners and campfire time. Fred and Margaret loved their many hikes everywhere they ventured. And have fantastic pictures to prove it. Around 1985, Fred retired and spent his time with Margaret enjoying all their passions. Some of their travels took them to the Yukon, Hawaii, Arizona, California, and all the western provinces. They were always off on a road trip somewhere, often in a motorhome!!
Fred was predeceased by his parents Robert & Edith, brother Norman and sister Kathy (Joe). He is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Barb (Pat), his daughter Brenda, his son Bob (Shelly), and his daughter Bernice (Bob) and his grandchildren – Donald, Richard, Jessica, Amanda (Elie), Nikolas (Kim), Mathew (Kelly), Ethan, Sydney, Liz (Richard), Crystal (Adam), Josh (Tamara) and his great-grandchildren – Maisie, Penelope, Edison, Riley, Owen, Kiki, Arthur, Audrey, Olive, Evelyn, Emry, Neha, Audric & Fergus and 2 to arrive in 2023. Also survived by brother-in-law Bob (Bev), brother-in-law Gordon (Willa), sister-in-law Laverne and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Branko Lazarevic and the kind and caring staff of Foothill Hospital, and to his favorite caregiver “Sunshine” Gemma.
A private service has been held. The family would be honored to have donations be made on Fred’s behalf to either Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary or Cochrane Humane Society.
