To Howard and family– Larry and I were very sorry to hear of Vola’s passing.
She was my(Betty Sherriff) teacher at Westbrook for many years and I always considered her the best teacher I had during my school years. She also made a huge impact on my brothers life when she found that he was partially deaf. I know she has used her wonderful teaching abilities to change the lives of her students who are adults today. She will be missed.

Dear Mr Farquharson, Karen, Donald and families,

I am very sorry to learn of Vola’s passing. She was a wonderful person and an extraordinary teacher to so many of her students. I had the good fortune to have her as my grade 7 & 8 teacher at Westbrook. She was made us all toe the line but her heart was totally dedicated to us doing the best we could. I can still see that classroom and hear her teaching us. What a great memory I have.

I know you will all miss her very much. With my sincere sympathy and condolences.

    Best regards,
    Larry Powlesland

I had the pleasure of teaching with Vola at Airdrie Elementary Junior High School back in 1978-1981ish when some moved over to Muriel Clayton and some of us stayed behind. My name back then was Barb Caswell and I remember going out to Madden for an outing. She was was a grand lady and a great teacher. She was welcoming to myself when I came to teach in Airdrie from Chestermere and we all enjoyed a good “party”. The age of the staff was diverse but Vola fit in with any crowd. I remember laughing a lot in her company. I have often wondered what became of her as I went on to teach at George McDougall until 2011. Good memories! My condolences to you Howard and all the immediate family. I know because of her personality that she led a full life and you were very lucky to have her in your family.
