ENGELMAN, David Lindsay
Dave Engelman, devoted husband of Linda Engelman and influential Dad of Lucy Engelman passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the age of 60.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Dave, know that he could never stop talking about his family, whether he was boasting about their adventures, showing off their cool matching tattoos, or reminiscing about the fun times had on the deck, in the garage, in his home, or out in the woods. His wife of 34 years and partner in crime of 42 years, Linda, was always by his side as they tackled the next challenge, life milestone, or one of Dave’s next unconventional dreams.
His daughter Lucy will never forget her dad, the man who taught her to always watch out for the details, live for today, and to always take care of and accept your people for who they are. Dave was always encouraging Lucy to ‘fly the coop’ and make her life what she wanted, but his unwavering support and consistent dependability was the reason she always loved coming back to the ‘nest/hood’ when she could. Lucy has especially fond memories involving her dad and his drinking buddy, Carolina (dic).
Dave will also be missed by his brother, JR; sister in-law Gail; nephews, Kyle and Craig; and his always-witty verbal sparring partner, UW. He was always so proud to be an Engelman and loved talking about his younger years and the wild times he had with his parents, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
This City of Calgary garbage man, trustworthy co-CEO of Sunrise, neighborhood prankster/cook/snow blower, reliable friend, drinking buddy, fierce cook-off competitor, water-fight starter, tool collector, aspiring photographer, inventive problem solver, jack of all trades master of none, big dreamer, early-riser, witty conversationalist (especially via text), crib master, was the go-to man for so many. He loved his people and loved animals even more (just ask his trusty side-kick, Puck). He always found an excuse to have fun and would want everyone to keep having the time of their lives, love on their people unconditionally, and enjoy a nice cold Labatt Blue when it suits them.
There will be a celebration of life held on December 21, 2022 at 6:00pm (the first day of camping season) at Ducks on the Roof; 205 3 Ave #10, Cochrane AB, T4C 1A8.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the Cochrane Humane Society or, to Linda’s beer fund.

We are so sadden to hear of our dear friend Dave’s passing.
Two of my fondest memories of Dave truly show his character and passions.
One being about 15 years ago when we camped at turtle lake with Dave, Linda and Lucy. We were woken one morning by Dave knocking on our trailer door asking to look in our fridge, he had a dream about a big sandwich the night before and he wanted to create it for all of us to share on the beach.
The other one is when our neighbourhood was experiencing some flooding, we were safe and dry, but that didn’t stop Dave from driving 45 minutes to our house with a portable pump in case we ended up needing it or if we could help a neighbour.
Such a loss to all that knew him, a great man to call our friend.
We will miss you Dave.
Thinking of you Linda and Lucy and sending tons of hugs your way.
Dear Linda and Lucy we are so very sorry to hear about your loss. We always remember how special he was to you both.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you both at this very sad time. Myles&Lorraine. Big hugs.
I have so many good memories of camping, fixing up trailers, working on projects to entertain the neighbours and always knowing that if I had a problem Dave would help me find a solution. For 23 years I have had the honour and joy of having Dave,Linda and Lucy as my neighbours and as my friends. Dave will truly be missed.I hope I can be a good support for Linda ,Lucy and all the family as they grieve for their loss.
I will miss our long chats on the deck and the laughs we had thinking of pranks to play on the “ hood”. Dave was amazing welcoming my friends and family from England, always cooking up a celebratory prime rib roast or experimenting with different flavoured wings/ribs/suasages and of course BACON..
Linda and Lucy I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart goes out to both of you as you navigate thru this very tough time. Dave was always there for anyone in need without hesitation and his family always came first. My prayers are with you both. Kevin.
Linda and Lucy please accept our warmest condolences. We are sending thoughts of peace and courage your way. Thinking of you and Lucy as you celebrate Dave’s life. I am sure there will be some Labatt Blue at his celebrate of life. Rick, BJ and Tanner
We are heartbroken for you Linda and Lucy. Dave was as genuine as a man can be, multi talented, multi passioned a good friend and a family man first and foremost.
There are too many memories, but over the past week we’ve been reliving many of them.
Back in the beginning for us we were introduced to “Down the alley Dave” by Robby when he lived laneside from you. Dave started the garage man cave thing as far as I’m concerned! The camping, the quadding, the trailer trash parties, the porch gatherings, the SMOKED MEAT!!
I am going to miss passing by on Glenbow, and when I see the plumes of smoke and friends mulling about on that porch I’d toot the horn to get my “JOHHHHNY!” Bellow reply from Dave every time. Made me chuckle always…
Our thoughts are with you Linda and Lucy, we’re always close by.
Love John, Jenn, Ryder and Joe
