EDGE (nee Bryant), Dorothy May (age 82)

March 16, 1940 – December 26, 2022

Dorothy May Edge of Cochrane Alberta passed away Dec 26, 2022 at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence in Calgary. Dorothy grew up on the family farm in Grand Valley west of Cochrane and attended Chapleton/Horse Creek School on horseback, and later Westbrook School by bus. After graduating she moved to Calgary to attend Henderson’s Business College and was hired by Mobil Oil, for what became a very successful career lasting 32 years. She was particularly proud to have worked on Mobil’s Hibernia Project.

In 1966 she married Don Edge and they set up their first home in Calgary before moving to Don’s family ranch west of Cochrane. Don & Dorothy contributed many volunteer hours in their community including the Cochrane Ag Society, Beaupre Community Assoc, and the Ghost River Pony Club. They loved kids and really enjoyed all of their nieces and nephews. The coffee was always on at their house and they hosted many large gatherings.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Don in 2007. She is survived by her older brother Dave (Betty), and younger sister Lillian, as well as very dear friend Jack Robertson. The family extends special thanks and acknowledgement to Diana Albery for her exceptional care and attention this past year and a half.

Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Parish (10 River Heights Dr, Cochrane, AB) on January 5, 2023 at 11 a.m. Following the service, immediate family will attend a brief private interment and rejoin everyone at the Church for a reception.

To my cousins- Lillian & Dave (& Betty) and all your family. I am so very sorry for your loss of Dorothy. When I think of Dorothy, I remember her & Don, their Ranch, their hospitality and the Buffalo! One of my first memories of Dorothy was when I was 12. My grandparents (Grace & Vaden McCray) brought my brother & I on a cross country trip up to Cochrane from Northern California. I remember watching lightning, light up the whole sky from their living room window. Then I got to visit again when I was in my early 30’s. My dad (Roger & Vada) flew mom & I in my dads plane to visit our Canadian cousins. Dorothy & Don walked us all over the ranch! I have photos of us just feet from one of Don’s buffalo. When my parents visited over the years, know I wished I could have come too. I will always remember little bits of memories of her (and all of you!) like Dorothy & I exchanging Christmas cards. These are treasures we keep in our hearts. Again my condolences to you.
Love Your cousin, Deidre Lovato Stipanov

I have had good memories of Dorothy. She was one of the six graduates of which I was one of the Westbrook school. Four girls and two boys. She was a very kind and I remember her for her overall attractive person. We intersected several times throughout the years and my memories of her remained intact. A lovely person. My condolences to all those to whom she was so special.

The stories my mom (Joan Shock) shared about growing up with Dorothy (who rode a pony with a saddle) we’re always heart warming. May Jesus the God of all comfort, carry you through now and forever. On behalf of myself and all of the family of Jesse and Tilleen Hyland I would like to send our sincere condolences to all of Dorothy’s family. Dorothy was a very special lady! Her warmth and hospitality was so genuine and refreshing. We had so many good times at The Ranch, when Mom and Dad were living in the old log house. We really appreciated how Dorothy looked out for them. How she opened up her property to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays or just relatives coming to visit in their RV’s. She also provided my boys with a place to hunt. Dorothy was a wonderful person and she will be greatly missed!

Dorothy was a charming woman. We had just moved to
Cochrane (2007) Dorothy dropped by our farmsite under construction. She said if we needed anything to let her know, she was a wealth of information and kindness to this new neighborhood family.

Dear Lillian and family. Dorothy will be dearly missed as I will always have fond memories of us at the Calgary Stampede in the middle of the infield riding in the express carriage as we waved to the crowd, and laughing as we saw ourselves on the Jumbotron! Dorothy and Don opened their ranch to all of us with the old time rigs. She made fabulous meals and had wonderful stories that were shared by all. In recent years, I was able to have a celebration visit with the Stampede happy trails. I’ll miss our visits. My heartfelt condolences prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.
