William ( Bill ) Edward Durrell

May 21, 1955 — March 27, 2023

May 21,1955 – March 27, 2023

The family of Bill Edward Durrell is saddened to announce the passing of their husband, father, grandfather and brother on March 27, 2023. Bill is survived by his wife Jeanne, children Steve (Sharon), Troy and Reed; grandchildren Caleb, Caspian and Carter; sisters Kathy Frey (Ken), Janet Hart (Steve) and Colleen Sax (Bob). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Hazel and Elwyn Durrell as well as his Uncle Jerry.

Bill grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He had fond memories of playing high school football at Central Collegiate where he flourished and made lifelong friends. He went to STI and graduated in the spring of 1976. He worked for Canadian Western Gas from 1978-1980, Ospsco from 1980-1985 and finally at Spartan Controls in Calgary from 1985-2009 which led him to meeting Jeanne.

Bill was a kind, thoughtful and generous man, who had a love for life, his family and his friends. You could often find Bill taking his sons to numerous Calgary Stampeders games to cheer on his Roughriders, Jeanne’s Stamps, Troy’s Ticats and Reed’s Bombers, as well as Calgary Flames games. He had a love for football, hockey, muscle and model cars, collecting a wide amount of sports memorabilia, the numerous of pets he had throughout his lifetime, camping and travelling the world. He was an avid news watcher, always keeping up on all the world’s current events and made sure he was politically conversational. Bill is what everyone should strive to be as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. There truly aren’t enough good words to describe the man that he was. The world is not as good of a place without him in it. Right up to the end, Bill lived his life on his own terms. The most difficult thing is to attempt to sum up the kind of man Bill was and how much impact he had on everyone he knew in just a few short paragraphs.

Bill went peacefully with his sons and wife by his side. He had two long and fierce battles with cancer. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker and Foothills Hospital, we just don’t know what we would have done without you all over the past several years.

Bill’s middle son Troy is running a marathon in Bills honor this summer – donations can be made at
