DUNCAN, John Stuart

DUNCAN, John Stuart
May 12, 1958 – July 9, 2011

Surrounded by family and friends, John faced death the same way he faced life, with immeasurable courage and a never-surrender attitude. We celebrate his passing to a place where once again John mans the blue line, thunders down the rugby pitch, bends it like Beckham, matches wits at the chess board, and always (well almost) hits the green in regulation. Behind the ever-fierce competitor was a loving father, cherished son, beloved brother, loyal friend, eternal optimist, shameless flirt and truly gentle soul who loved to laugh, sing and make memories with family and friends. John will be always loved and forever cherished by his daughters, Linzee and Karly and their mother, Dorinda Wegwitz; father Ian (Maureen Stickney); siblings, Maggie (Todd Harding), Mary (Hans) Schoendorfer, Bill (Olga) and Tom (Janet Donaldson); many devoted caregivers, particularly, Anna and Carol as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. John is predeceased by his mother, Eva Robertson. A casual celebration of John’s life will be held at the Calgary Winter Club, 4611 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 1:00 P.M.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to Triwood Community Association, 2244 Chicoutimi Drive N.W., Calgary, AB. T2L 0W1, www.canadahelps.org or a charity of your choice. Following the service, family and friends are invited to attend a “bring your own food/drink” picnic at Edworthy Park. Maps available.

    Dear Dorinda and girls,

We want you to know that we are saddened by your girls loss of their Dad and your loss of a lifetime friend. We trust you will travel hand in hand through the grief which must seem in surmountable today.

Hopefully time will allow for only the brightest life memories to shine through for each of you.

    Keeping you in our prayers,
Uncle Carl and Aunt Lorraine – Linda, Dennis, Charlene, Charles and Mike and families

My heart is with you Linzee and Karly, I love you both, you’re father was such great man. I have such great memories of your dad, and of you. I loved having conversations with John, they were always thought provoking, interesting, funny, and I always left feeling free. He ispired me to strive for better in life, not to accept anything but happiness. Even with all that he had to put up with, could laugh through alot of the ugly stuff. Some of the best times in my life where with him and you both. Our road trip out to Salmon Arm, the cabin, the dogs, etc. He was one of a kind, the best, an amazing man. Carry the good memories close to your heart, I know I will, as you walk through life and be so proud that you can call John Duncan your father.

My heart is also with the entire Duncan family. It was great being part of your clan, so many good memories. Lots of good laughs Tom, I always looked forward to your visits. Love to you all in this sad time.

    Dear Ian,

I was so sorry to hear from Betty that John has died. I am glad that I went with Susan to visit him when I was in Calgary at Easter. He has had a hard time and it has been difficult for you and your family, especially Mary. Please give them my sympathy. My thoughts will be with you on Sunday.

With sympathy and best wishes to you. Fran
