DELAURIER, Gerard

August 15, 1976 – May 12, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Gerard Delaurier of Calgary Alberta on Sunday, May 12, 2019 in Penticton, BC at the age of 42 years old.
Gerard was born in Dauphin Manitoba on August 15, 1976 and at the age of 3 months old, he lost his father (Leo Delaurier) in a sudden and tragic death. He resided in Winnipeg until he was thirteen years old at which time, he moved to Ste. Rose MB until he graduated. After graduation, Gerard moved to Swan River MB to work for his uncle Joel Delaurier and subsequently earned a Diploma in “Hotel & Restaurant Management” from the Red River College in Winnipeg.
In his mid-twenties, Gerard ventured west to Alberta, settling in Cochrane and Calgary. For several years, he was a Drywaller, an accomplished Hardwood Floor Layer and “Jack of all Trades” rising to any challenge presented to him. He decided to pursue a career in Masonry and received a Certificate of Accomplishment from SAIT in 2013, earning him the title “Bricklayer”. Because of Gerard’s creativity and attention to detail, he pursued the direction of working and specializing in Stonemasonry and became well known in the industry as “This is the guy we want on our project!”. From commercial projects in Calgary and surrounding areas, to multi-million-dollar homes, Gerard’s skills led him to work in the Okanagan Valley on a regular basis, with his last project in Penticton, BC this past May.
Gerard met the love of his life, Christine Sharman in October 2015 and they both realized it was kismet! It was shortly after they met, Gerard and Christine decided to live together because they knew it was “meant to be”. Gerard received the blessings from Christine’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage and in September 2018 they were engaged with a wedding date set for June 6, 2020.
Gerard was an amazing man and loved by so many. He always had a smile on his face and knew how to make anyone laugh. He was kind, thoughtful, considerate, and had so much love to give. He was a hard worker and put his heart and soul into everything he did.
Gerard was extremely proud to be a member of his extended family which included many dear friends. He is survived by his loving fiancé, Christine Sharman, her parents (Fiona Sharman, Mike Lagasse), his mother Diane Dipple (Alan), his brother Michael Delaurier (Rachel Charette), nephew Matthew and niece Sarah, 24 aunts and uncles, first cousins and their spouses and children.
He was predeceased by his Father, Leo Delaurier, his paternal grandparents Cecile and Alexandre Delaurier, and his maternal grandparents Evelyn and Vladimir Denys, his uncles; Ovid Delaurier, Louis Delaurier, Joseph Delaurier, Jim Weisensel, Johnny Denys, his aunt Doreen Delaurier.
A Celebration of Gerard’s Life will be held at the RockPointe Church – Bearspaw (255024 Lochend Road, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm.

Although far too brief, it was such a privilege to know Gerard. His infectious energy and gregarious nature always lit up the room and will never be forgotten. RIP.
Gerard had this special infectious giggle that just made you laugh as well. He was so happy with the life he had chosen with Christine and her family. They embraced the man he was and together they made many great moments. It is unbelievably sad that now they are memories, but they will never be taken away from you. It breaks my heart to hear this news. G-Dog was a great friend to me in the time I knew him.i worked beside him for some years during his hardwood days. Besides a great worker, he was an even better friend. He definitely helped me change my life! Sincere condolences to every heart that knew this great man.
We are saddened to hear of your loss. The family has lost so many special people. Our thpughts and prayers are with you.
While I never knew Gerard personally, he certainly does look like my many beautiful DeLaurier cousins! I was still young when his Dad, Leo, passed away…but I will remember this life event always, as it was my first funeral. It is with great sadness that I learn of Gerard’s tragic death. I am confident that his reunion with his father (and grandparents and uncles and aunt) in heaven is bittersweet, but I know the pain that his absence on earth makes. My prayers go out to you, Christine, and to all the family that he has left behind. May God comfort you and bring you peace!
We were so saddened to hear about Gerard. We remember him from our school days when he moved from Winnipeg to Ste. Rose, and he was always so friendly and cheerful. Our condolences go out to his family (including Michael from our school days) and to his fiancee and her family. May you all find peace eventually in your wonderful memories you will always have of him in your lives.

There are no words.
Christine, you did an amazing job of giving tribute to Gerard. The organization of the service, the photos, the choice of location, the pastor; and the video that was shown at the service (and is linked to this page), all are proof of your love and commitment to Gerard. I also want to honour the tribute that Gerard’s brother Michael delivered at the service. It was poignant and thoughtful and captured the essence of what was a truly unique and beautiful man – and brought into focus the true loss that we have all suffered by this unbelievable tragedy. To my sister Fiona who spoke about Gerard from the view of Gerard’s new additional family – I was so proud of you. Your tribute was a clear vision of the love Gerard inspired in not just Christine but in you and Mike. You made it clear why it was so natural to love Gerard. How his death will leave such a void. I am so glad Gerard was in my life – albeit all too briefly. My life is better because he passed through mine. Love to all those who loved Gerard.
