CROSS, Barry Russell
June 20, 1953 – December 10, 2022
It is with profound sadness; our family announces the passing of Barry Cross at the age of 69. He passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
Barry was born on June 20, 1953 in Hanna, Alberta. He met and married his wife Lynne in Olds, Alberta. They had two children, Breanne and Coby whom they raised on their quarter horse and cattle farm but moved to Salmon Arm when the kids were young, to pursue a life in the Shuswap, owning a successful family run restaurant. They later moved back to Alberta, where they settled into retirement in Cochrane.
Barry loved playing, coaching and watching hockey and golf, volunteering his time to junior nights and dedicating any other spare time to his children’s sports and extracurricular activities.
When we think of Barry we think of how much he loved his family, he always put them first. He’ll be remembered for his love for horses and everything country. He’ll be deeply missed but he will always be greatly loved and remembered.
He is survived by his wife Lynne, his daughter Breanne and her husband James, his grandchildren Anna and Cayden, his brother Randy, his sisters Julie and Jacquie, his brothers and sisters in law and his many nieces, nephews and friends.
The memorial service will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse at 11:00am on Friday, December 16, 2022. The family invites all family and friends to attend. Those that wish to make a donation on behalf of Barry can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Our condolences to the Cross family. The Cross family are special friends and we shared many wonderful experiences during the years we all lived in Salmon Arm.
Lynne and family,
Sorry to hear about Barry. Would have treasured 1 last horseback ride around Fox Lake. Barry and did have many good rides together but over the past 4 years our lives have been at least 2 provinces apart. Lots of positive hockey memories with the Elks, Wolves, and Junior B some of which we shared with Norm. Remember when Hanna was thriving and vital town with Bill Cross Mens Wear at the heart of Main Street. Miss those times and all the family that we have left behind but so appreciate the time that I did have with Bill, Betty, Randy, Barry, Julie and Jacquie.
So sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. Your family will always hold a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I noticed at least 1 typo.
Should have been 40 years and not 4.
Great photo of Barry by the way. He didn’t age a bit and always had that ruggedly handsome cowboy look about him. I was on the ice with Barry when passed the puck back to the point only to stop a slap shot with his nose. Of course most of us did not wear face shields in those days or helmets for that matter. Broken noses and chicklets was the price that many of us payed to play the game that we loved.
My prayers are with you Lynn and Bree. Barry was a great person and a great boss/ friend. He is blesses to have such a wonderful family. He is with Coby now and all those before him. My deepest condolences
