SEDLECKY, Karel

Karel-Sedlecky3
February 21, 1964 – December 6, 2014

With sorrowful hearts, we announce that Karel Sedlecky, age 50, of Cochrane, Alberta, was taken from us suddenly on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 6:20 pm, in Cochrane, Alberta.

Karel was born in Decin, Czechoslovakia (present day Czech Republic), on February 21, 1964, to Alena Sedlecka and Karel Sedlecky. Karel was married to Karen on August 22, 2003 in Calgary, Alberta.

Karel immigrated to Toronto, Canada, from Czechoslovakia in 1986 with his life long friend, Jaroslav Kislinger. Fifteen years later, touching both minds and hearts along the way, he followed his dream to move West to Kelowna, British Columbia. He owned and operated his own business there for several years, before aspiring to obtain his MCSE Certificate through an extended program from the University of BC. It was there in the classroom, in 2001, where we found each other, fell in love, and never let go.

Our beloved Karel was a talented author and artist with heartfelt passion for people, and our two beautiful Bernese Mountain Dogs, Misha and Chinook. He had countless certificates of achievement, including his MCSE, A+ Certification, Certified Mechanic, Certified Forklift Operator, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and most recently became a valued member of the Super Sales Agents team at WestJet Airlines. There was nothing he did not excel at. Karel made the world beautiful and happy. I often called him ‘My Shining Star’ for exactly that reason. Karel made a tremendous, lasting impact on everyone who knew and loved him.

His love of friends, family, fun, and laughter will forever be remembered with utmost affection. He loved travelling, sunshine, Caribbean blue waters, driving, exotic sports cars, airplanes…he was a very gentle, diplomatic and caring man. He befriended many, and was always ready to help when needed, no questions asked. The void he leaves is irreparable. There will never be another like him. I love you ‘infinity’. I’ll never let you go. Sedlecky heart

Heartfelt thanks to all doctors, nurses, paramedics and staff at our Cochrane Urgent Care Centre for working tirelessly to save Karel’s life. We know that he was given the best care and chance possible. To our dear friends and family in Canada and Europe, most sincere love and thanks for all of your help and support in this devastating time.

Karel is predeceased by Alena Sedlecka (mother), and is survived by Karen Sedlecky (spouse); Myles Sedlecky (stepson); Gerard Malhiot (father-in-law); Doril Malhiot (mother-in-law); Joanne Malhiot (sister-in-law); Denis Mayit, (brother-in-law); Elaine Kessy (sister-in-law); Karel Sedlecky (father), Dana Holodova (stepmother), Milan Holoda (brother), Daniela Holodova (sister).

Please follow ‘Karel Sedlecky Memorial’ Facebook page to receive updates on venue information and the date for our beloved Karel’s Summertime Celebration of Life in Cochrane. A separate celebration will be held for our dear friends and family in Czech Republic. In light of Karel’s love for animals, donations can be made to Cochrane & Area Humane Society, www.cochranehumane.ca

HUNT, Kerry Rhindress

Kerry-Mexico2
April 16, 1963 – November 28, 2014

Born on April 16, 1963 in Summerside, PEI into an air force family, Kerry spent his younger years in Moose Jaw, graduating from Riverview Collegiate in 1981. He attended art school at Grant McEwan College in Edmonton, lived in BC for a time, and settled in Cochrane, where he called home. Kerry struggled with Type 1 Diabetes. On Friday November 28, 2014 his illness finally took him.
Kerry Leaves to mourn his mother Norma Hunt Schwartz of Kimberley, BC and his brother Brian. Kerry was predeceased by his sister Kelly in 1975, his father Rhindress “Red” Hunt in 1982 and his stepfather Norm Schwartz in 2005.

Kerry will be missed by many friends from across Western Canada. He was a beloved son, brother, friend, artist, musician and sports enthusiast. He has been a member of the Cochrane Home Hardware family for many years. He spent every Monday night with his “brothers from another mother” faithfully watching football, cheering on the Chicago Bears. It was a select few that Kerry chose to hold close to his heart. For those who had the opportunity to know Kerry personally, we are all a little better for it.

Not always a man of many words he often expressed himself through his art. He touched many lives through his love of art and music. His paintings are known to many, displayed at Olive ‘R Twist and in the homes of many friends and family. You can spot his pieces right away as they have a unique, vivid yet abstract character to them. A piece of Kerry went into every one of his paintings. It’s comforting knowing that we will always have these, a little piece of Kerry, to remember him by. In our loss, heaven has gained another angel. Rest In Peace Kerry. You will never be forgotten.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Kerry at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 15, ( 114 – 5th Avenue West, Cochrane ) on Sunday, December 7th , 2014 at 5:30 pm
