BOON, Heather Ann

August 10, 1934 – April 2, 2020

Heather Ann Boon passed away peacefully on Thursday April 2 after a long and challenging battle with Alzheimer’s.  She is survived by her husband, Earl Roderick, their three daughters, Daphne, Penny (Mario) and Johanna, their 7 grandchildren, and her sister, Beryl Rathwell.

In the words of her daughters she so loved and they so loved her:

“Mother was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Dad enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains, golfing, gardening, cruising and travelling to visit their daughters and extended families.”

“Mother was known for always being loving, respectful and supportive to her family, friends and others. She treated everyone with kindness and accepted people without judgement. She always thought of others before herself, and during these current special times, she would want us to think of others. She was truly a genuine person. Heather and her million dollar smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”

“We have been so blessed to have such a caring, patient and empathetic mother and the love shared between Mom and Dad has been truly inspirational. We will cherish the many beautiful memories of you, Mom.”

Heather and Earl were married for 58 happy years. They loved their family and although far apart took every opportunity to visit. In their presence you could feel the special love they had for each other. A beautiful romance and wonderful life they shared and enjoyed together. They always felt they were so blessed. Heather’s graceful ways, touch, smile and kiss, will be missed by her sweetheart. She was a person full of fun with a keen dry sense of humour. She believed in Faith, Hope and Love and her daily life actualized all three. Her life was a model for all.

Heather and Earl bought their dream home in GlenEagles in 1996. She so enjoyed living in Cochrane and loved looking out the window in the great room at the beautiful view of the Canadian Rockies. She was a strong supporter of the Cochrane Rotary Club and over several years was a special friend to the Club’s many foreign Exchange Students.

Thank you to all the nurses, attendants and staff at the Cochrane Bethany Care Home. Their empathy and care for Heather was always exceptional.

Thank you to Marie-Linda Plante (TTogether), Heather’s independent Care Giver for the past five years. The professional and loving care Marie-Linda gave Heather was excellent. Also thank you to Shannon Lappin, Heather’s alternate Care Giver.

Thank you to Heather and Earl’s many Rotarian friends and their neighbours for being so kind and supportive during Heather’s long journey with Alzheimer’s.

A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Heather’s name may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, phone 403-290-0110.

Arrangements entrusted to Cochrane Country Funeral Home, Florence (Flo) Simpson, Funeral Director. Ph: 403-932-1039.

To Earl, Daphne, Penny (Mario), Johanna, Beryl and your families,
We send our love and condolences, we are thinking of all of you during this time of grief and remembrance. Heather was a beautiful person inside and out and we know you will miss her dearly. Jeff, Ian and I remember her when you hosted the family reunion at your home in Winnipeg. Deanna and I remember her fondly when we golfed with you (Earl) and Heather at the Links of Gleneagles and another day at the Banff Springs hotel for dinner. Wonderful memories of laughter, great conversation, the occasional great shot and walking that extremely hilly golf course near your home in Cochrane.
That is how we will remember her and we know you have many, many other fond memories of your wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Treasure them forever.

    To Earl Boon and Family,
We were saddened to hear of Heather’s passing and our sympathy goes out to you, your daughters and your family. We remember Heather from our Winnipeg days and the happy times we spent together at your lovely homes in Cochrane and Stuart and when you visited us when camping at Banff. You both beamed with pride in your chosen home at GlenEagles with the spectacular views and the access your beloved mountains to the west. You built the ideal retirement lifestyle with your homes in Cochrane and a winter home in Stuart, Florida. You were an inspiration to many of us that followed. Heather was always the gracious hostess and always made you comfortable whether in a campground, a fancy restaurant or in your home. We know she will be missed and may you find comfort in the many happy memories you shared on our journey together.
