BILLINGHAM, John William “Jack”


March 12, 1931 – January 11, 2013

John (Jack) William Billingham passed away peacefully on January 11, 2013, at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, Alberta at 81 years of age. He was born March 12, 1931 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, the only child to Witt and Eva (Hall) Billingham. Jack spent his early years in Portage la Prairie, where he attended East Prospect School. After his marriage to Carol in 1954, they relocated to Calgary. Jack spent his working years in the aviation industry. He and Carol enjoyed dancing, music and socializing with their very large circle of friends. Near and dear to his heart were the times spent with friends from the Rustler’s RV club.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Carol, in 2005, to whom he was happily married for 50 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, David (Heather), Gregg (MaryAnne) and Bruce (Tisha), and his beloved grandchildren Katie, Beth-Ellen, Lene, and Rory.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 15, 114 – 5th Avenue West, Cochrane, Alberta, on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Cremation has taken place.

    So sorry to hear of Jack’s passing away. He was a dear friend to both of us. Jack was a true gentleman, honest steadfast, gentle and had a great sense of humor. Along with our friendship we shared many a martini with the absolutely perfect drop of vermouth. Jack adored his family and they were a source of stregth for hime after Carol passed away. We will cherish all the good times shared over the years with both your parents. We’ll raise our glases with a toast to Jack on the day of his funeral.

    Dave, Heather and all of the Billingham family: We have many great memories of happy times with Carol and Jack over the years we were Rustlers together. Jack was a fine man, quiet but with a wonderful sense of humor. The sparkle in his eye, his wicked little smile and laugh were truly genuine ~ everyone loved him.     It is with great sadness that I just learned of Jack,s passing. I knew Jack at Field Aviation many years ago when he worked in parts stores. He was very efficient at his job & I particularly remember his big smile & sense of humour as he brought parts & hardware to us at the counter. My sincere condolenses to his family.     We are so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing, we have so many wonderful memories of both Jack and Carol. They made camping with the Rustler’s so much fun for all of us. The hiking, card playing, and the many happy hours along with all the laughter. Jack and Carol both had such a great sense of humor and they will truly be missed. In the mid nineties via my long lost cousin Heather and her husband Dave I had the pleasure of being introduced to Jack ,Carol and the Billingham clan. I was quickly and easily accepted into the family and thoroughly enjoyed Jack’s easy humor, welcoming and steadfast personality and wonderfully suttle grace. He will be missed. Rest in Peace Jack.
