1951 – 2023

BettyLou Benz-Adams, of Cochrane, AB, beloved wife, sister and aunt, passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary from complications of Cancer. She will be deeply missed by her family, many friends and colleagues. She was known for her warm smile and quick laugh. Her nieces and nephews looked up to their Aunty with all their love as an adopted ‘mother figure’.

BettyLou was born in Rocky Mountain House, AB and was raised on the Benz farm at Caroline. She attended Grades 1 through 12 at the Caroline School. She lived in Cochrane, AB for the past 30 years with her husband.

BettyLou had many careers throughout her life as a hairdresser, waitress, and Gold/Silversmith. She made the most beautiful jewellery, maintaining contracts to supply numerous pieces to jewellery stores in Calgary. She also made many pieces for friends and family members for special occasions. She was the most amazing cook and entertainer. Family get-togethers were most important to her, especially organizing “behind-the-scenes” the annual family corn and chilli roast for 30 years. She continued to give haircuts to family and friends. She enjoyed bowling, attending theatrical performances, and travelling.

BettyLou is survived by her loving husband, Troy, of 40 years (married 29 years), her sisters Linda (Garry), Elsie (Ed), Charlotte (Smiley), and brother, Albert (Rose); Troy’s parents, Barry and Marie Adams, his twin brother Garry (Louise), and his sister, Angela, numerous nieces and nephews, and “stepsons” Bobby Woof and Timmy Woof.

BettyLou was predeceased by her father, Charles Benz, her mother, Blanche Benz, and her brother-in-law Sean Roberts.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the Caroline Legion, on Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of BettyLou, donations may be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
