BELL, Lachlan Thomas

November 23, 1980 – June 24, 2017

We are devastated and heart-broken to announce the sudden death of our beloved Lachlan Bell at 36 years.  Lachlan was born and raised in Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia where he fell in love with horses.  He began his riding career early with Pony Club and, growing up, embraced any opportunity to further his horsemanship skills. He began training horses at age 16 and set himself on a path for a lifetime working with horses. Moving to Canada in 2004, Lachlan continued his career working for top reining and cutting horse trainers before branching out with Lachlan Bell Performance Horses. He was very well known in the Reining community in Alberta.

Lachlan loved his family very much and he will be dearly missed by Kelly and his children Blade, Gemma, Anwyn and Dacie all of Cochrane, AB; his parents Graeme and Carolyn Bell of Chinchilla, Australia; his sister Rachael (and Chris) Reeves of Calgary, AB; his brother Marcus Bell (and Kelly Thomas) of Melbourne, Australia; his grandparents Ray and Daisy Bell of Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia; his girlfriend Brittney Rogers; his special dog “Chook”; and many dear friends, colleagues, and extended family.  He is predeceased, and now in the arms of his maternal grandparents Nanna and Poppy Robertson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a Trust for his children are gratefully appreciated. Donations may be made at any ATB Branch by advising to deposit to ‘Kelly In Trust Bell’.

A Celebration of Lachlan’s Life will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse (101 Ranche House Road, Cochrane, AB) on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm.  The family encourages you to wear your best hat, boots and jeans.

I was very saddened to hear the news of Lachlans passing. I went to school with Lachlan, and remember his cheeky and friendly attitude. My thoughts go to his parents, Graeme and Carolyn, and the rest of his family and friends, but most of all to his beautiful children. May they cherish the memories of the times they spent with their Dad, and know that they are surrounded by people who will forever shower them with his love. Prayers are with everyone during this hard time xo

Lachlan was regularly my Karate training partner way back when we where just kids in Chinchilla. Our friendship continued and we become even better mates years later when we crossed paths again within rodeo world. I loved Lachy’s gentle and kind nature. Never had a bad word to say about anyone, however was always witty with the most perfect timing. Often Lachy was a quiet observer at rodeos, completely comfortable in his presence many times we just sat together no words were ever needed My deepest condolences to all his many friends and family.

My deepest condolences to Lachlans family and close loved ones. We went to the same school together and pony club. Lachlan was always kind hearted and a pleasure to talk too. It saddends me to know our paths won’t cross again.

Our deepest sympathies to Graeme and Carolyn Bell on the passing of Lachlan. It was a pleasure sharing time with you and Lachlan on your last visit to Cochrane. Our time in Prince George was special and we will hold these memories in our hearts forever. As you know Lachlan was like family to us along with his whole family. He will be truly missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to Kelly and the family. I had the pleasure of competing with Laughlin at the Brandon Trainer’s Challenge. Not only a hell of a horseman, he was a true gentleman, easy to share a story and bring a smile to your face. He will be missed by all who knew him, I’m sure. Rest easy my friend. I guess Creator had need for another good cowboy to help work his herd.

Lachlan will always hold a special place in my heart and many others. Lachlan gave me my first Reining book back in 2002, my compass was set. He inspired and gave so much to those blessed to have been in his life. My thoughts go out to his family and friends who love him so dearly.

I’ve only just moved back to Chinchilla and my delight at running into Graeme after all these years quickly turned to heartbreak at learning Lachie was no longer with us. My hugest condolences to Graeme and Caroline and to the rest of his family – what beautiful little children he’s left behind. Will be keeping you all in my prayers, as although three years on, I know it still hurts deeply. Again, I’m so sorry, Lachie was such a top bloke, I just can’t believe it and am so saddened by this news. Love Tara xx
